ROCK A HOOLA THEME

Here is an insight for you as too what I am up to at the moment.

Inks illustration for my printed textiles.
'Rock a Hoola' is a theme based around a character..my work starts as illustration this is towards my Degree show at Demontfort University in Leicester. I am really enjoying creating this little world. My starting point is my illustration..inspired by Vintage Hawaii, fun colours and Elvis Presleys song Rock a hula, from the film Blue Hawaii.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT & COLOURS.

Lots of legs fighting for space..!

Vintage Hawaii, has helped to inspire me create these more western looking fun little figures. The Hawaiin style is a starting point in which I have developed my work from...

Trying out unusual flower vessels (unglazed) upon my plates

CUPS

Little Flower cups, are the way foward! Im underglazing illustration upon these pieces I want
them too fit with the theme. I freely draw upon the surface and add the colour and handwriting to
give them a sketchbook appearance.
Im seeing all sorts of possibilities of surface decoration lustre around the rim maybe? Little flower shaped saucers? Im liking this too much!

Two of the glazed cups have nice little saucers and plates here. Typically fun and Hoola' ish
to set the scene!
However,I cant help thinking they need a little decorative gold lustre around the rim..

 PALM TREE.. FELT & EARTHENWARE

I really like to have a bit of fun with ceramics, mixing  materials is a way of achieving a
unique look. As with the figures here I have combined textiles (felt) with earthenware.
When I was little I never really liked twee ornaments.
I find that making ceramics tactile and fun and by breaking the rules,I have created
my own style of ornaments.
Im hoping to develop this work further and push the bounderies, who knows? Maybe even
fun ceramic and textile jewellery.
