I have a personal interest within the fifties music scene
whereas I have connections and friendships within a nostalgic and fun
subculture; this I find helps me find my inspiration.
I create illustration using pen and ink, which develops my work.
From there I can then expand my creative ideas.
I write a short narrative that includes a fictional character
based upon people that I have met or have merely observed.
Viewing vintage imagery such as old advertising and films I find
also inspires me.
My themed body of work consists from using mostly porcelain. I
hand build, slip cast and apply surface decoration by hand painting and glazing.
Additionally I make my own printed patterns upon fabric from my
illustration and hand and machine stitch to create decorative textiles and
trims.
Key elements of my designs such as my ‘Rock a Hoola’ theme
include colour, playfulness and a sense of fun. I hope to engage viewers with
my narrative, to make them feel happy and express their understanding with a
smile.
